Tsewang, a monk from Adhue Monastery who was recently arrested for sharing online an image of a symbolic hat commemorating the 90th birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, has now been released.

According to verified information received from a reliable source, Tsewang Dhongo, a monk of Adhue Monastery, was detained around July 1st after posting an image of a symbolic hat to honor the 90th birthday celebrations of His Holiness the Dalai Lama on online platforms. After being held for nearly a month and half, he was released around August 18th.

The source confirmed that Tsewang was released only four days ago. While it is clear that he was allowed to return to his home in Adhue Village, it remains uncertain whether his movements are being restricted. Tsewang Dhongo, originally from Adhue Village in Ngawa (/Aba), Tibet, joined Adhue Monastery as a child and was pursuing advanced studies in Madhyamaka (Middle-Way) philosophy at the time of his arrest.

In addition, a source inside Tibet shared on social media that the young Tibetan singer Asang has also been released. The post stated that he is currently safe and with his family, although he is not permitted to appear on social media. Asang was arrested and taken away during the recent 90th birthday celebrations of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. His detention is connected to his performance of a cover version of the song “The Prince of Peace” (Shide Gyalse), originally composed and sung by another artist some years ago, which he performed together with a friend.
