The sister of a former student of Ragya Sherig School, Zomkyi has been abducted and arrested under allegations of spreading false information about the school.

Zomkyi was arrested—photo supplied by related source.

After the Chinese government issued directives to close Ragya Sherig Norbuling School, there have been widespread discussions expressing disappointment among Tibetans within Tibet and in the diaspora. Zomkyi was arrested for spreading false information about the school on online platforms. There is no information about her current location following her arrest by the Nagchu County Police.

According to a reliable (Tibetan) source of the Tibet Times, Zomkyi had been detained for a few days after a dispute with the local government officials a week before the school’s closure. Additionally, on June 14th, she was instructed by local police to refrain from traveling. The same source informed us that Zomkyi had previously expressed reluctance to participate in the “political education” programs initiated by the government.

Zomkyi and her brother Tseten hail from Nagchu County, and it has been only two years since he joined Ragya Sherig Norbuling School.
