Yangtso, a Tibetan woman from Gyatso village, Namling county, Shigatse in Tibet has been released from detention on 5 March 2024, around 5 local time in the evening. She was arrested on 4 March 2023 for allegedly sharing photos with Tibetans living in exile.
A reliable source of Tibet Times said, “On 5 March 2024, Yangtso’s family was called over phone to come to the local police station along with her mother and village head for receiving her. After reaching the police station, they were told to sign an agreement on taking responsibility for her actions in future.” As of now, Yangtso has been released, but she is closely monitored and even not permitted to meet other people. Her current health condition remains unknown.
The Chinese authorities arrested Yangtso who was working in Gangri restaurant in the city of Shigatse on alleged charge of sharing photos with Tibetans living in exile during checking phones on 4 March 2023. At that moment China had been intensifying crackdowns and inspections in Tibet ahead of Tibetan New year and Uprising Day.
Yangtso is 24 years old now. Her father passed away when she was a child and she has never got a chance to go to school. She lives with her mother and 7 years old brother.
