On October 25th, 2023, Samphel was summoned to the police station of Gidhong township, Sakya county, Shigatse. His mobile phone was confiscated and searched as soon as he reached there. After searching his mobile, the police interrogated him about many things, including the accusation of his initiation of the Buddhist Group on a social media platform. Following the interrogation, he was taken away to Shigatse.

A reliable source informed Tibet Times, “Since then, his whereabouts remain unknown. I heard that Samphel initiated a Buddhist Group without registration according to the China’s Internet regulations.” However, whether Samphel initiated the Buddhist group or not remains unclear.

The source added, “A Buddhist Group was there before, and that group gives food to the street dogs and free animals on auspicious days like the 15th day of the month. More than that, the Group shares the teachings of great lamas with one another.

Samphel has been working in Sakya monastery as a cleaner for a long, and he has three children with his wife.
