Tibet Times has received reliable information that Tibetan writer Dhi Lhaden has been released recently from a Chinese prison in secret; he is in good health after a medical check-up.

The source said, “His family members and friends have arrived to receive him. Over the past few days, he has gone through a medical check-up in Chengdu City. He is well and physically healthy. He will return home soon.”

The source added, “Despite Chinese authorities having released him from prison, imposing strict restrictions on his activities and meetings with others. His family and relatives demanded not to send his photos to one another.”

Tibetan writer Dhi Lhaden was arrested unexpectedly in Chengdu City in June 2019; he was detained incommunicado by his family and relatives for almost two years. On 4th December 2020, Chinese authorities summoned his family and said they would share some information about him, but later in October 2021, he was sentenced through a secret trial. Dhi Lhaden’s family was informed only about the verdict after it was finalized.

Dhi Lhaden was born in Pema County, in Golok, Eastern Tibet. At 11, he joined the Larung Gar Buddhist Institute in Serta and studied there. At 28, he went to Lhasa and studied in Drepung and Sera monasteries. Later he disrobed, got married, and had a child.

In 2008, he traveled to different places in Tibet to observe the situation inside Tibet. He has written three to four books, such as Life and Death Testaments and The Art of Passive Resistance, expressing concerns over the Large-Scale protest in the year of Earth-Mouse.
