The Chinese government has imposed substantial restrictions on Tibetans by forbidding the display of Kirti Rinpoche’s portrait. This decision has left a more prominent scar in the heart of faithful followers of Rinpoche.

The 11th Kyabgye Kirti Rinpoche at his residence Kirti Monastery in Dharamshala, India

[Posted on T.T Tibetan site 21 June 2023] According to a relevant source, the Chinese government regularly imposes special restrictions on the Kirti monastery and related people. In this year’s Great Prayer Festival (Cho-trul Monlam Chenmo), Tak-tsang Lhamo Kirti monastery displayed Kirti Rinpoche’s portrait during their Butter Offering on the Fifteenth of January of the Lunar calendar. Local Chinese police arrived and prohibited the display Kirti Rinpoche’s portrait. Recently there was a movement banning the display of the portrait in the Ngaba Kirti monastery and nearby towns around Ngaba.

A few years ago, the Chinese government prohibited the celebration of Kirti Rinpoche’s birthday in Tibet. For that, the local bakeries are ordered to close the shops a few days before the birthday of Rinpoche. If someone has called their relatives in India, the local police will investigate and detain them for sending offerings to Kirti Rinpoche in the name of deceased people.

Chinese government instills fear while suppressing and restricting Tibetans in many ways. Even talking to families outside, you are called for an investigation and threatened not to participate in these activities in the future.
