Last year, coinciding with the birthday celebrations of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the Chinese government intensified its crackdown in Tibetan areas. Under the pretext of involvement in these celebrations, several Tibetans were arrested. Among them, the young singer Asang and his fellow singer Palchung were forcibly detained forperforming a cover of an old song titled “The Prince of Peace”. Even as Asang was released after being held in detention for almost seven months, there is still no information about his colleague, the singer  Palchung who was arrested along with him and remains missing.

The young singer Tzukte, better known by his online moniker Asang, is the son of the Naktsang family from Camp No 4 of Kashul Village, Barma Township, in Ngawa (Aba) County. He and his wife, Lhamo, have two children. Asang is a student of the well-known Tibetan singer Gebe. He is known for his deep sense of pride and loyalty in his Tibetan identity and has always highly valued the preservation and promotion of the Tibetan language, religion, and culture.
