Dhonyu, a Tibetan language teacher from elementary school of Meruma in Ngaba county, Tibet was sacked on trumpeted-up charges of not following the Chinese education policy during his classes.
A concerned Tibetan from Meruma in exile informed Tibet Times, “Recently, Dhonyu, a Tibetan language teacher of Meruma elementary school was sacked from his employment stating that his way of giving education is not right. Prior to this, he was often summoned to the involved offices and asserted that he must follow the Chinese education policy to teach the students.”
After he was expelled from the school, his students and their parents posted photos and videos regarding this matter on social media platforms. They have stated, “It is a heartfelt disappointment to learn that a sincere Tibetan language teacher who worked for education for over 15 years has been sacked from this school but there is nothing we can do about it. In a video that Tibet Times received, it is seen a number of his students running towards him, surrounding and hugging him while he was about to leave the school. This scene in the video really depicts how much they love each other.
Teacher Dhonyu hails from nomadic camp 4, Meruma village, Ngaba county in Tibet. As he used to teach Tibetan language and history, he was summoned repeatedly by local authorities and warned him to discourage such activities.
