Tsedon, a Tibetan girl from Tibet University in Lhasa was arrested by the police of Ritso Township, Nyemo County, Tibet. Nearly half a month later, her family members were informed of her death. Officials refused to return her body to her family.

On 26 December 2023, Tsedon was arrested by the police for unknown reasons and while the community considered her missing many days. Shockingly, on 15 January 2024, her family members were informed that she had passed away in the People’s Hospital of Nyemo County.

A reliable source told Tibet Times, “Following the arrest of Tsedon, her parents and relatives went to the local police station asking for detailed information about her arrest, but were told she was arrested after a one-year investigation for many reasons.”

The source added, “Despite, her family members repeatedly requesting authorities to return her body, they were told that the body is not allowed to return since it is postmortem. Later, the local police informed her family members that she had suddenly fallen down and couldn’t stand back up then admitted to the hospital. In the hospital, she remained in a collapsed state. Usually, Tsedon is a healthy person. So, we suspect that she was beaten and tortured to death by the Chinese police.”

Tsedon was a second-year undergraduate at Tibet University in Lhasa. She privately tutored numerous students during winter and summer breaks. She also distributed free textbooks and helped other students in studies within her abilities.

Please keep me informed of the appalling situation in Tibet. I was caught smuggling 300 passport size photos of the Dalai Lama into Tibet in 1996. They followed me for days all the way to Drigung Til. There they threatened to cut my tattoos off and put a pistol to my head whilst screaming in Chinese at me that I was in China not Tibet. How they treat Tibetans in their own country is horrific.
    Thankyou for your informative articles.
