Four Tibetans arrested for inaugurating Mani Stone Mound

Yesterday morning around 8:30 local time in Tibet, the main four organizers of the Mani stone carving project were arrested in Kyegudo claiming that they have collected huge amounts of donations illegally.

Traditionally, in Kyegudo regions, people conduct ceremonies on auspicious dates after a great deal of Mani stone carves are accomplished. In this year, the organizers of the project asked donations from various places and inaugurated 250 thousand Mani stones. During that time, local police came and intervened in the project, arresting the main four organizers of the project, Lhoga, Nyima, Tsedar and Rinchen on alleged charges of using the power of religion and race to make individuals famous by threatening and tricking common people.

As per the reliable source of Tibet Times, “The Kyegudo police has come and told that the project has to be stopped temporarily, and summoned the organizers, Nyima and other three. Subsequently, they were forcibly taken away and kept in detention in Kyegudo prefecture.”

Another source told Tibet Times, “For this inauguration of Mani stones, a significant amount of donations estimated over 250 thousand Chinese Yaun has been received from various places. Usually, numerous Mani stones are inaugurated every year, but this year is totally different.”

Nyima and Lhoga are siblings who run a shop of silk fabrics and religious offering utensils in Kyegudo. Tsedar hails from Drito County and Rinchen works as a stone carver in Jiana Mani.
